Binghamton men's tennis defeats UMBC 5-2 to stretch win streak

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (13-5) defeated UMBC (7-8) 5-2 indoors Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. The win was BU's sixth consecutive and ninth in the last 10 matches. The Bearcats captured the doubles point before winning four of the six singles matches.

Senior Richemn Mourad (Sao Paulo, Brazil) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and sophomore Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) went three sets to earn a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. Senior Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) improved to 20-5 overall with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No 3.

"It was a hard-fought match," head coach Michael Starke said. "We came out a bit more fired up in singles."

Binghamton next hosts arch rival Stony Brook Monday at 2 p.m. The winner will have the inside track on the No. 1 seed for the America East Championship. The Bearcats have edged the Seawolves three consecutive years in the conference title match.
