BALTIMORE, Md. - Host UMBC (12-5-1) seized the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches to drop Binghamton (6-10) 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Tennis Complex. The defending America East champion Bearcats had won four consecutive matches against the Retrievers.
Junior Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) was the Bearcats' lone singles winner, earning a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the second spot. Earlier, Dobrin teamed with junior Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for am 8-4 win at first doubles. Mohamed lost a hard-fought three-set match at first singles and BU dropped another three-set match at No. 3 singles.
The Bearcats went down in straight sets at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, winning just four combined games.
Binghamton is scheduled to play Sunday at Stony Brook.
