BU men's tennis player Dietz advances to semifinals at Virginia State Open


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Binghamton University men's tennis sent two players to the Virginia State Open, hosted by University of Virginia over the weekend at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Junior Sebastian Dietz (Leun, Germany) won two matches to reach the semifinals of the A-2 singles flight. He knocked off the No. 4 seed from Longwood, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round, and then posted a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over a player from Radford in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Dietz dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match to the eventual winner and top-seed from VCU.

Sophomore Moshe Levy (Ra'ananna, Israel) won a match in the A-1 singles flight, posting a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over a player from William & Mary in the backdraw. In his opening match, Levy pushed the No. 3 seed and eventual runnerup from VCU to three sets before bowing, 7-6, 6-7, 6-1.

Dietz and Levy also won a match in the B doubles bracket - an 8-3 victory over a pair from Liberty.

Binghamton next competes at the Army Invitational on October 13-14.
