Quiller and Wilmer sweep pole vault at Day One of America East Track & Field Championships

BALTIMORE, MD.-- Senior Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) and j
unior Katie Wilmer (North Syracuse, N.Y.) swept the pole vault events, highlighting the Binghamton track & field teams' performances at Day One of the America East Conference Track & Field Championships, which are being held at UMBC. The men's team is currently in third place while the women;s squad resides in fifth place.

Quiller and Luke Schoen tied for the top height in the men's pole vault (16-08.75) but Quiller won due to having the fewer number of misses. Both athletes broke the existing conference record of 16-05, which was set by Jamison Whiting of New Hampshire on 2000.

Wilmer, meanwhile, recorded a winning jump 11-3.75 in the women's event. Sophomore teammate Carly Gross (Woodstock, N.Y.) finished in a five-way tie for third (10-10).

Elsewhere on the men's side,
sophomore Justin Halleck (DePew, N.Y.) and senior Kevin Hall (Glen Falls, N.Y.) were second and third in the hammer with distances of 181-03 and 164-10 respectively. Graduate student Adam Goldberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Iannone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) tied for fourth in the high jump (6-4).

Sophomore Jimmy Massar (Johnson City, N.Y.) clocked the fastest times in the preliminaries of the men's 200 (22.12) and the men's 400 (48.48)

In other women's events, sophomore Marsha Feisinger (North Syracuse, N.Y.) has the lead midway through the heptathlon with 2,515 points. She also placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of 99-03 feet.
Sophomores Kim Williams (Buffalo, N.Y.) clocked the fastest time in the 200 preliminaries (24.63) while junior Keisha Short (Yephank, N.Y.) had the best time in the 400 preliminaries (57.54). The finals for both events are on Sunday.

Sophomore Katie Radzik (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) placed third in the women's 10,000 (36:51.95).

The second and final day of the America East Outdoor Championships will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
