Quiller and Gifft sweep pole vault titles at America East Track & Field Championships
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshmen Robb Quiller and junior Kiki Gifft swept the men's and women's pole vault events, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the first day of the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the East Gym Track Complex. Team-wise, the men's are in third place out of nine teams while the women sit in fourth place. New Hampshire is first in both meets.
Quiller took top honors in the men's competition with a jump of 15-9. Freshman teammate Eric VanAerman finished in a three-way tie for second with a height of 15-3. On the women's side, Gifft was first with a winning jump of 10-8.
This marks the second time in three years that Binghamton has swept both America East outdoor pole vault events. Rory Quiller and Katie Wilmer were the winners in the 2007 championships.
Elsewhere on the men's side, freshman Nelson Hall was second in the high jump (6-4) and junior Chris Gaube was fourth in the 10,000 (31:56). Sophomore Alicia Finger was fourth in the women's 10,000 (38:25).
The second and final day of the America East Track & Field Championships starts Sunday at 9 a.m.
