Quiller and Williams excel at Bucknell Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Meet
LEWISBURG, Pa. Senior Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) broke the outdoor school record in the men's pole vault and sophomore Kim Williams (Buffalo, N.Y.) posted a pair of first-place finishes, highlighting Binghamton's showing at the Bucknell Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Meet. The Bearcat women's team place fifth out of eight teams while the men were sixth out of seven teams. Penn State swept both team titles.
Quiller's jump of 17-6 1/2 feet broke his own outdoor school record of 17-2 3/4, which he set two years ago. It also marked the second time this season that he has reached the NCAA Regional qualifying standard. Quiller's lifetime best vault of 18-0 1/2 came at last month's NCAA Indoor Championships, where he placed second overall.
Elsewhere in the men's meet, sophomore Jimmy Massar (Johnson City, N.Y.) was second in the 200 (22.03) and fellow sophomores Dan Walker (Cortland, N.Y.) and Geoff Campbell (Irvington, N.Y.) placed second and fifth in the 100 with times of 11.14 and 11.22 respectively. Massar, Walker, Campbell and graduate student Adam Goldberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) were second in the 4x100 relay with an IC4A qualifying time of 41.98. Goldberg also placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.09).
Williams, meanwhile, won the women's 100 with an ECAC-qualifying time of 12.04. She then helped junior Keisha Short (Yaphank, N.Y.) as well as freshmen Deahna Vinson (Monsey, N.Y.) and Jasmine Hinson (Beacon, N.Y.) record a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay with an ECAC-qualifying time of 47.69.
Williams, Short, Vinson and freshman Hana Wright (Canandaigua, N.Y.) finished second in the 4x400 relay with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:51.83. Short also finished fifth in the 200 (25.67).
Junior Dayna Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) was third in the women's 400 hurdles (1:04.45).
Binghamton heads to the Cornell Invitational next Sunday.
NOTE: Quiller's jump also broke the Bucknell Facility record in the pole vault.
