compete at Cornell "5-Way" Meet
ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Frank Savinon (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) captured the 800 meters, and freshman Jon Amoona (Woodmere, N.Y./Hewlett) set a school record in the 60-meter dash, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the Cornell "5-Way" Meet Saturday at Barton Hall.
Savinon, BU's lone winner on the day, crossed in 1:56.76. Amoona placed fourth in 7.23, breaking the old mark of 7.29, set by Oded Segev last season.
Freshman Joe Flucus (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) placed second in the 200 (23.11) and junior Andrew Cloud (Massapequa, N.Y.) was second in the weight (52-feet-9 1/2). Sophomore Mike Ksionzyk (Olean, N.Y.) placed third in the pole vault (14-3 1/4), as did freshman Luke Shafer (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid) in the high jump (6-5) and senior Mike Stewart (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the 400 (51.75).
On the women's side, senior Marie Lloyd (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) was runner-up in the 500 (1:18.22), and also placed fourth in the triple jump (36-11 3/4). Freshman Jaime Stitt (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendowa) was third in the pole vault (10-6), senior Larisa Least (Geneseo, N.Y.) crossed third in the 400 (59.72), and junior Lisa Kemmerer (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) was third in the 5,000 (19:10.5).
The Bearcats will send athletes to both the Penn State National Open and the Bucknell Bison Open next Friday and Saturday.
