Immediate Release: December 3, 2005 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Men's and women's track and field opens season at the Cornell Indoor Relays ITHACA, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's and women's track and field teams opened their seasaon at the Cornell Indoor Relays Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y. There was no team scoring in the meet. Sophomore Dayna Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the women, setting a personal record of 40-6 1/4 in the triple jump and also finishing sixth in the long jump (18-1). Her efforts in the triple jump earned her a second-place finish and helped her qualifiy for the ECAC Indoor Championships in March. Fellow sophomore Keisha Short (Yaphank, N.Y.) also enjoyed a fine start to the indoor season, finishing fourth on her way to setting a school-record in the 300 with a time of 42:21. Also on the women's side, senior Jaime Stitt (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) finished fourth in the pole vault (11-2) while freshman Kim Williams (Buffalo, N.Y.) made the most of her first collegiate track meet, finishing sixth in the 60 (8.05). On the men's side, senior Paddy Hennessy (Selkirk, N.Y.) set a school record and qualified for the IC4A Championships (which will also be held in March) by finishing second in the 35 lb. weight throw event with a distance of 57-3. Senior Hasani Hampden (Freeport, N.Y.) also qualified for the IC4A meet by winning the heptathlon with a total of 4,090 points. Also turning in strong performances for the men were freshman Justin Halleck (DePew, N.Y.), who finished third in the weight throw (53-11 3/4) and senior Ryan Van Halle (Newark, N.Y.) who also earned a third place-finish in the pole vault (14-9). Both teams return to action on January 20 at the Albany Great Dane Classic, which will be held at the New York City Armory.
