Quiller,
Yelverton lead track & field efforts at Carlson Crowell Open
WEST
POINT, N.Y.--Graduate student Rory
Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) and senior Kris
Yelverton swept the top two places in the men's pole
vault and met the IC4A-qualifying standard in the process, highlighting
Binghamton's performance at the Carlson Crowell Indoor Track
Open on Saturday afternoon. The meet, which was hosted by Army,
had no team scoring.
Quiller, who has already qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships,
posted a winning height of 17-2 3/4. Yelverton, meanwhile, cleared
15-9. The other Bearcat winner on the men's side was junior Justin
Halleck (DePew, N.Y.), who took top honors in the weight
throw (54-0 1/2).
Sophomore Chris
Gaube (Vestal, N.Y.), who missed the cross country season
with an injury, made a solid return in his first indoor track
meet. He placed second in the 5,000 (15:24.60) and third in the
3,000 (9:01.54).
On the women's side, freshman Ashley
Horton (Candor, N.Y.), Binghamton's top cross country
runner in the fall, won the 5,000 (19:22.14). The women's 4x400
relay team of senior Jessica
Picca (Shoreham, N.Y.), sophomores Caitlyn
Wright (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Maureen
Metz (Commack, N.Y.) as well as freshman Lindsay
Nygren (Glen Rock, N.Y.) clocked a winning time of 4:11.82.
Senior
Keisha
Short (Yaphank, N.Y.) was second in the 500 (1:18.66).
Binghamton competes at the Cornell Upstate Challenge next Saturday,
starting at 10 a.m.
