Quiller
to appear in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd"
VESTAL,
N.Y. -- Graduate student Rory
Quiller (West Point, N.Y.), who captured the NCAA Division
I indoor pole vault title last month, will appear in the April
17 edition of Sports Illustrated. The three-time All-American
will be featured in the magazine's "Faces in the Crowd"
segment.
Quiller is the fourth Binghamton athlete to have appeared in
Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd." Five-time
NCAA Division III triple jump champion Monique Hacker was featured
in the July 15, 1996 edition. Standout golfer Adam Fuchs was
profiled in the Oct. 2, 2000 issue and men's soccer goalkeeper
Stefan Gonet was selected for the week of Dec. 1, 2003. In addition,
former Binghamton men's basketball coach Dick Baldwin was the
subject of a full-length feature article in the Feb. 14, 1994
issue.
The 2008 NCAA Indoor title concluded Quiller's stellar collegiate
career. He is a five-time national qualifier who also placed
second in the 2007 indoor meet and tied for fourth in the 2007
outdoor championship. Quiller has also been named the Northeast
Region Male Field Athlete of the Year twice and has won six America
East Conference pole vault titles. Currently, he holds the America
East indoor and outdoor pole vault records as well as the NCAA
East Region Outdoor mark.
Quiller
is seeking to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will
be held June 27-July 6 in Eugene, Oregon. He has already met
the provisional standard of 18-0 ½ and with a lifetime-best
jump of 18-6 1/2, is closing in on the automatic standard of
18-8 1/4.
The
April 17 edition of Sports Illustrated will be on sale
at news stands starting later this week.
