van Ingen places third in 1,500 at ECAC/IC4A Championships
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Sophomore Erik van Ingen was third in the finals of the 1,500, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the ECAC/IC4A Track & Field Championships at Princeton University this past weekend. Also placing this weekend for the Bearcats were freshmen Robb Quiller and Eric VanAernam, both of whom tied for fifth in the pole vault (15-9).
van Ingen's time in the finals on Sunday was 3:50.67. In the preliminaries on Saturday afternoon, however, he broke his own school record with a time of 3:45.83. Sunday's final featured a more slow and tactical race, with van Ingen finishing less than a second behind first-place Cory Nanni of Duke 3:49.54.
In two weeks, van Ingen heads to the NCAA East Regional Championships at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro.
NOTES: Binghamton's placed 27th out of 52 teams in the IC4A championships ... van Ingen's previous school record of 3:47.45 was set at the Bucknell Invitational on April 11.
