VESTAL, N.Y.-- Sophomore Erik van Ingen has met the qualifying standard in the 1,500 for the USA Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 25-28 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. He made the cut with his performance at this past weekend's NCAA East Regional Championships.

In the preliminaries of the 1,500 on Friday, van Ingen clocked a school-record time of 3:43.93. The next day, he finished eighth in the finals with an even faster time of 3:43.18. The qualifying standard for the USA Track & Field Championships is 3:45.

“This is a well deserved accomplishment for Erik," Binghamton head cross country and assistant track coach Annette Acuff said. "The USATF National Outdoor Championships will be a great experience and opportunity for him. We’re both really excited to see him compete there."

van Ingen will be the second Binghamton athletic to compete at a USATF National Meet. Former NCAA champion Rory Quiller placed second in the pole vault at the 2008 indoor championships.

Earlier in the season, van Ingen met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile with a time of 4:01.59 at the Notre Dame Invitational on March 7. Two months later, he captured the America East Outdoor title in the 1,500 and was third in the same event at the IC4A Championships.
