Cross country squads compete in Albany Invitational
Women finish in fifth place overall

ALBANY, N.Y. - Freshman Ashley Horton's (Candor, N.Y.) 10th place finish paced the Binghamton Cross Country teams at the 41st annual Albany Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The women placed fifth out of 29 teams while the men were 19 out of 26 teams.

Horton's time of 17:55 was good for 10th out of 239 runners in the 5,000 meter race. She was followed by freshman Sarah Veith (Derby, N.Y.) who placed 31st (18:38) and Shannon Finnegan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) who was 40th (18:47).

Also scoring for the women were freshmen Renne Blair (Beacon, N.Y.) and Alicia Finger (Cicero, N.Y.) who placed 45th and 46th, respectively. The classmates crossed the line together at 18:51.

Sophomore John Carroll (Ithaca, N.Y.) was the top men's finisher as he placed 76th out of 228 runners in the men's race, finishing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:05.

Harvard won both the men's and women's races.

Binghamton will next compete in the America East Championship at Stony Brook on Oct. 27.
