Angell named America East Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
VESTAL, N.Y. ---Junior Erica Angell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been named the America East Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Oct. 11-17. It marks the first time in her career that she has received the honor.
Angell continued her superb season on Saturday by winning the women's race at the Albany Cross Country Invitational. She helped lead the women's team to a second-place finish out of 21 teams.
The were 227 runners in the 5,000 meter race and Angell won by six seconds, clocking a time of 17:40. She became the first Binghamton women's runner in the 38-year history of the Albany Invitational to win the individual title. In addition, Angell was just four seconds of the course record of 17:36.
"Erica's fitness level is really high right now, which helped her at the end of the race," Acuff said. "She is not afraid to compete with anyone and always give it 110 percent."
In five races this season, Angell has finished first or tied for first three times.
Binghamton heads to the America East Conference Championships on Oct. 30.
