Cross country squads host Binghamton Invitational

VESTAL, N.Y. - Freshmen Gerald McDonald (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Ashley Horton (Candor, N.Y.) were once again the top Bearcat finishers as the cross country squads hosted the fifth annual Binghamton Invitational on Saturday. The Bearcat men finished fourth out of four squads while the women were third out of three teams. Columbia swept both the men's and women's team titles.

McDonald completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:23, placing 13th overall. Fellow freshman Casey Quaglia (Bangor, Maine) took 18th (27:03) and sophomore Craig Coon (Penfield, N.Y.) was 23rd (27:30).

Zach Richard of Columbia led a pack of 12 Columbia runners with a time of 26:23.6.

Horton, meanwhile, covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:56, finishing 18th overall. Freshman Kelly Billingiere (Binghamton, N.Y.) was 19th (20:02.3) and freshman Jennifer Hastings (Vestal, N.Y.) was 20th (20:06.4).

Carmen Ballard of Columbia took first place in the women's race (18:55.4), followed by teammate Jackie Drouin.

Binghamton heads to the Lehigh Paul Short Run on Friday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
