van Ingen places 43rd at NCAA Cross Country Championships
Senior concludes career with personal-best effort at national meet

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Senior Erik van Ingen placed 43rd overall out of 246 runners at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday afternoon at Indiana State University. Racing in the meet for the second consecutive season, he narrowly missed earning All-America honors, which were awarded to the top 40 finishers. His time for the 10,000-meter course was 30:35.

"I thought Erik ran the perfect race," head coach Annette Acuff said. "He fought hard the whole way and closed well."

"It was my best race of the season," van Ingen said. "It's frustrating missing (All-America honors) by three places but I thought I ran well.

Monday's race marked the third time in his career van Ingen has advanced to a NCAA Championship race. In addition to the 2009 cross country championships, he also advanced to the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championship in the mile.
