Cross country teams run at NCAA Northeast Regional Championships

Boston, Mass. - The Binghamton Cross Country teams competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The women placed 16th of 34 teams while the men were 21st of 34 teams.

Freshman Ashley Horton (Candor, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the women as she finished the 6,000-meter course in 22:10, good for 58th place in the 254-runner field.

Freshman Sarah Veith (Derby, N.Y.) placed 109th (22:54) and classmate Shannon Finnegan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) was 113th (23:00).

"Our women had a really great performance." said eighth-year head coach Annette Acuff.

Freshman Andrew Ugolino (West Hurley, N.Y.) was the first Bearcat to cross in the men's race, finishing the 10,000-meter course with a time of 32:09. Ugolina placed 102nd in the 235-runner field.

Coming in behind him was freshman Casey Quaglia (Bangor, Maine) in 118th place (32:32) and junior Connor Martin (Fairport, N.Y.) in 120th (32:37).

"Our men had a good performance, they finished a couple spots better than last year in this race," Acuff said.

Iona won the men's race and Providence won the women's race.

The cross country teams' seasons will conclude on November 19 at the IC4A/ECAC meet in Bronx, N.Y.
