Binghamton softball announces three high school signings

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton softball program has received a National Letter of Intent from three high school seniors, all of whom will join the Bearcat program for the 2009 season.

Kristen Emerling (Germantown, Tenn.) is a pitcher from Houston High School. In the summer of 2007, she competed for the Germantown Lady Red Devils GOLD team.

"Kristen is one of the most fundamentally sound pitchers I have seen in
a long time," head coach Ali Brian said. "She has a good array of pitches to compliment her strong fastball. We are looking forward to Kristen being a huge part of our staff in the future."

Kate Price (Brewerton, N.Y.) is a pitcher from Paul V Moore High School. She has also played in the summer for the New York Bad Apples travel team.

"Kate has a very strong presence on the mound that can be very intimidating," Brian said. "She has a good work ethic and we are excited about what
her efforts will bring to our program."

Colleen Whitaker (Salinas, Calif.) is a catcher from Notre Dame High School. Her older sister Jessica is a junior pitcher for the Bearcats.

"Colleen is fundamentally sound and athletic. She is very quick behind the plate and is a smart student of the game. Colleen has a strong arm, a good bat, and is an extremely focused individual. We are thrilled to have her here at BU."
