Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman outfielder Nicole Kothe had three RBI in the first game and senior pitcher Casey Halloran scattered just three hits in the nightcap, leading Albany (20-11, 5-5 AE) to a doubleheader sweep over host Binghamton (4-21, 1-9 AE) in America East action on Saturday afternoon at the East Gym Field. The Great Danes took the first game 8-5 before winning the finale 4-2.
Kothe drilled a two-out, three-run double in the top of the fourth inning, putting Albany up 4-0. She advanced all the way home on the play. Two batters later, senior third baseman Kelly Ogden smacked a two-run homer, pushing the lead to 7-0.
The Bearcats took advantage of a pair of Albany errors in the bottom of the same inning, narrowing the deficit to 7-3. Junior pinch hitter Laura Gremillion, however, got a run back for Albany with a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
Senior outfielder Sara Eppolito (Manlius, N.Y.) doubled home a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, pulling Binghamton to within 8-4. She was later singled home by sophomore designated Patty Egan (Sierra Vista, Ariz.). The Great Danes, however, got out of the inning without allowing another run.
Hallaron, meanwhile, held the Bearcats to two runs on three hits while striking out 13 batters. She got all the run support she'd need in the top of the fourth inning as the Great Danes took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to plate three runs.
Junior third baseman Megan Quinn (Temecula, Calif.) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning and Eppolito connect on a solo blast in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Bearcats crept to within 3-2. Albany, however, took advantage of another Bearcat error in the top of the seventh inning to score an insurance run.
The two squads are scheduled to play a single game at 10 a.m. on Sunday. That game, however, is in serious doubt due to the impending weather forecast.
NOTES: Quinn scored twice in the doubleheader while Eppolito went 2-for-6 with a run and a pair of RBI.
