ALBANY, N.Y. -- Jess Bergin hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Albany (7-8, 1-0 AE) to a come-from-behind victory over Binghamton (10-6, 0-1 AE) in the first game of the America East conference play on Saturday in Albany.
Binghamton was leading game two of the originally scheduled doubleheader 4-2 through four innings, but play was suspended due to darkness. The two teams will finish game two on Sunday at noon followed by the third game of the series.
Binghamton jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Albany in game one, as junior catcher Deannie Plemon hit two home runs in her first two at-bats. Junior Stephanie DeLuca also hit a home run and senior Stephanie Valencia hit an RBI double.
Albany finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with a two-run homer by Gina Mason. The Great Danes then tallied three more in the fifth to take the 5-4 lead.
BU tied the game at 5-5 when Plemon had her third hit and third RBI of the game, scoring sophomore Briana Andrews.
Neither team was able to score again until Bergin's walk-off in the 10th.
In the second game, Binghamton scored four runs in the top of the fourth before Albany plated two in the bottom.
"Offensively we did a good job coming out and getting on the board first and we need to finish out this second game tomorrow," head coach Michelle Burrell said.
Full details of the second game will be provided in Sunday's game release.
Notes: Plemon was 3-for-4 on the day with three RBI ... Her two home runs in one game ties the school record
