Binghamton's Meadows named all-conference second team
Tucker and Whitaker also picked for all-rookie softball squad

America East Release

Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Sandy Meadows was selected to the 2009 America East softball All-Conference Second Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Also receiving accolades were freshmen Meghan Tucker and Colleen Whitaker, who were chosen to the all-rookie team.

Meadows led Binghamton this season in both batting average (.270) and runs scored (18). She was also the teams starting leadoff hitter in all 43 games of the season. She started most of the season in center field before moving to second base to fill in for an injured player and was selected to the utility position of the all-conference team. She will graduate as BU's all-time record holder for career games played (167), walks (48) and stolen bases (37).

Tucker, a graduate of nearby Windsor High, was a starting outfielder as well as the team's number two pitcher in 2009. She started 40 games on the season, including 11 in the circle.

Whitaker started 27 games for the Bearcats before her season was cut short due to a wrist injury. She started 18 games as a third baseman and nine as the team's number two catcher. She also tied for the team lead in walks.

Tucker and Whitaker become the second straight Bearcat tandem to be named to the all-rookie team for Binghamton. Last season, Deannie Plemon and Briana Andrews were chosen.

The Bearcats will return seven of nine starters and all three of their pitchers for the 2010 season.
