VESTAL, N.Y.-- Anna Blessing (Ashburn, Va.), who will join the Binghamton softball team as a freshman this coming fall, has been named the 2010 Virginia AA State Softball Player of the Year by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.
The recent graduate of Broad Run High School was previously named the 2010 Dulles District Player of the Year as well as the 2010 Virginia High School League Region II Player of the Year. Additionally, Blessing received All-Met recognition from the Washington Post this past spring.
A center fielder, Blessing lead the Spartans with a .509 batting average slugging two home runs, 20 RBI and a school-record seven triples. Blessing also set the school's single-season record with a .947 slugging percentage. In addition to her duties in centerfield, she spent time in the pitcher's circle compiling a 12-3 record with two saves while striking out 87 batters in 92 innings pitched.
Blessing is currently playing summer ball for the Virginia Shamrocks.
