Hamilton, N.Y. -- The Binghamton softball team (21-15) smashed 25 hits and six home runs to sweep Colgate (21-17) 8-5, 8-1 in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Eaton Street Field on Wednesday afternoon. Binghamton raises its win streak to six games and has scored at least eight runs in every game of the spurt.
Junior catcher Deannie Plemon went 4-for-4 for the second time in as many games when she had a perfect day at the plate in the series opener. Plemon had a home run, a double and two RBI.
Freshman Jessica Phillips hit two home runs in the nightcap, which was called after six innings due to darkness. Phillips was 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored in game two. She led off the top of the first inning with a solo home run, doubled in the second, and hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Emerling pitched six innings, gave up five hits, one run, none earned and struck out six to earn her 12th win of the season and is now the Division I single-season record holder for most wins by a pitcher.
Plemon and Valencia were each 5-for-7 on the day.
Binghamton will next play a three-game conference series at Boston University this weekend. Later this season, BU and Colgate will play a doubleheader in Vestal.
Notes: The hard-hitting Bearcats set single season records for most runs (170), RBI (144) and home runs (32), with 12 more games on the schedule ... Plemon is currently on 12 game hitting streak, a school-record ... This is the tenth 20-win season in school history and the second at the Division I level
