Binghamton drops pair of games at Day One of ECU Pirate Clash

GREENVILLE, N.C..-- The Binghamton softball team (0-2) dropped a pair of games at the opening day of the East Carolina Pirate Clash. After losing 6-3 to Delaware in the first game, the Bearcats were defeated 6-0 by James Madison in the finale.
In the opener, freshman third baseman Mary Ann Magee proved to be the difference for the Blue Hens, going 4-for-4 with a game-high four RBI. She drilled a two-run single in both the fourth and fifth innings as Delaware jumped out to a 6-1 lead.
The Bearcats pulled to within 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI singles by senior shortstop Emilie Palmcrantz (Leksand, Sweden) and freshman designated hitter Nicole Constantatos (Commack, N.Y.). Binghamton, however, was held scoreless the final two innings.
Junior outfielder Cyrilla Suker (Lakewood, Calif.) went 1-for-2, scored twice and drew a pair of walks.
In the final game of the day, sophomore pitcher Meredith Felts of the Dukes tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out 11 Binghamton batters in the process. Senior shortstop Katie George went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs while sophomore third baseman Amber Kirk was 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs.
Binghamton faces Fordham (10 a.m.) and East Carolina (noon) on Saturday afternoon in the final day of pool play at the ECU Pirate Clash.
