Binghamton softball loses 3-0 to Vermont in final game of ECU Pirate Clash
GREENVILLE, N.C.-- Junior pitcher Aimee Kern tossed a two-hit shutout and drilled a two-run home run, leading Vermont (1-9) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (0-5) in the final day of the ECU Pirate Clash.
Kern broke up a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with with her two-run blast. Later in the inning, junior catcher Whitney Borisenok drove in the Catamounts final run on a RBI single.
Despite throwing impressively for much of the game, sophomore pitcher Jessica Whitaker (Salinas, Calif.) was tagged with the loss. Until the fateful sixth inning, she had held Vermont to just a pair of singles. Whitaker finished the game with seven strikeouts, one short of her career high.
Binghamton heads to the Dixie Classic at Norfolk State next weekend.
