Binghamton softball falls in extra innings to Oakland 4-2

STATESBORO Ga. -- Oakland (1-4) was able to claim third place at the Georgia Southern Eagles's Classic on Sunday by defeating Binghamton (2-3) 4-2 in eighth innings.

Down 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, freshman Jessica Phillips led the inning off with a walk and eventually scored on a passed ball to tie the game 2-2 and force extra innings.

Oakland scored two runners in the top of the eighth on a single by Erin Galloway. Binghamton was unable to answer in the bottom of the eighth.

Freshman Rhoda Marsteller took the loss for Binghamton, pitching the full eight innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out six.

Junior Stephanie DeLuca had Binghamton's lone hit and freshman Shannon Kane scored BU's first run on a double steal.

Binghamton will return to action at George Washington's Colonial Classic March 6-7.
