gains doubleheader split against Hartford

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Junior outfielder Sandy
Meadows (Buena, Ariz.) homered and drove in three runs,
leading Binghamton (7-36, 2-18 AE) to a doubleheader split against
Hartford (20-20, 8-12 AE) in an America East Conference softball
doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the East Gym Field. The
Bearcats won the nightcap 2-1 after dropping the first game 9-1
in five innings.
Binghamton trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning of the
second game when Meadows belted a two-out, two run home run over
the left-center field fence. It was her first homer of the season.
Junior Patty
Egan (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) held the Hawks to one run
on four hits and struck out five batters. She issued just a pair
of walks.
In the opener, it was sophomore Brittany Stratton of Hartford
who was the dominant pitcher. She held the Bearcats to one run
on two hits and also struck out five batters.
Through two innings, Stratton already had a 6-0 lead to work
with. Sophomore second baseman Rachel Clonick and sophomore second
baseman Amanda Dilworth both had an RBI in each of the first
two innings and senior third baseman Alex Morley belted a solo
home run to lead off the second inning.
Meadows broke the shutout with a RBI single in the bottom of
the third inning but sophomore first baseman Ann Kyzer had a
two-run single in the top of the fourth and junior outfielder
Amanda Sais scored on a throwing error in the fifth inning.
Stratton, meanwhile retired eight of the nine batters she faced
after Meadows run-scoring hit.
The two teams conclude their weekend series with a single game
on Sunday at 11 a.m. |
