Bearcats split a pair of games at James Madison Invitational

HARRISONBURG, VA.--In the opening day in its second tournament of the season, Binghamton (6-2-1) split a pair of games at the James Madison Duke Invitational, beating Sacred Heart 6-2 before losing to the host school 9-2.
Sophomore pitcher Katie Hansen (Westtown, N.Y./ Minisink Valley) allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out eight batters and sophomore shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y./ General Brown) went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the opening game on Friday. Hansen's record is now 3-1 on the season. Also turning in a multiple-hit game against Sacred Heart was junior center fielder Jessica Dima (Staten Island, N.Y.), who was 2-for-4 with a triple.
In the game against James Madison, the host Dukes blew the game open with five runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to lock up the win. Senior pitcher Michelle Weeks (Bunnell, Fla./ Flagler Palm Coast) suffered her first loss of the season, dropping her record to 2-1. Offensively, freshman infielder Christina Quijano (Syracuse, N.Y./ Westhill) went 2-for-3 and scored a run while freshman third baseman Sara Eppolito (Manlius, N.Y./ Fayetteville-Manlius) went 2-for-2.
Binghamton faces Lehigh on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the final game of pool play. Bracket play will start on Saturday afternoon.
