VESTAL, N.Y.-- Mikala
King (Binghamton, N.Y.), who will join the Binghamton softball
team as a freshman this coming fall, has been named the
2010 New York Class B State Co-Player of the Year by the New
York State Sports Writers Association (NYSSWA).
As a senior, King hit .430 an .826 slugging percentage, six
home runs, 27 RBIs and 32 runs scored. She was part of the Chenango
Valley team that won the state Class B title, defeating Olean
4-0 in the championship on June 12. King played a big part in
the championship run, hitting two home runs in a 7-5 win over
Mechanicville in the semifinals, then scoring twice in the finals.
In three state playoff games, she went 6-for-11 with seven runs,
four RBIs, three steals and two home runs.
King was also named to the
2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association
(NFCA) All-East Region Second Team. Each of the five NFCA regions
(East, North, South Central, South and West) named two teams
of 16 players each.
Binghamton, which finished 24-19 in 2010, now has a pair of incoming
freshman who have been named their state's Player of the Year.
In addition to King, Anna Blessing (Ashburn, Va.) was
named top player on the Virginia Class AA level.
