Orono, Maine -- Three pitchers from Maine (15-20, 4-1 AE) combined to hurl a pair of shutouts as the Black Bears defeating Binghamton (15-10, 3-5 AE) 4-0, 4-0 to earn a doubleheader conference sweep on Saturday.
Maine's Ashley Kelly threw a complete game shutout in game one and Alexis Souhlaris and Beth Spoehr combined for the shutout in game two.
In the opener, Maine scored a run in each of the first three innings and added their fourth run in sixth inning. Maine took advantage of two errors by BU in the first and did not relinquish the lead.
Maine's Hillary Kane hit a home run and Kelly scattered five hits, struck out five and walked one.
Freshman Jessica Phillips was 3-for-4 in the opener with a double.
Maine struck early again in the second game, plating one run in each of the first two innings and added a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
Binghamton was troubled by fielding errors all day, as the team registered eight on the day, four in each game.
The two teams will play the series finale at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
