Orono, Maine -- Maine (16-20, 5-1 AE) broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fifth inning to post a 3-2 win over visiting Binghamton (15-11, 3-6 AE) in an America East softball contest on Sunday. The Black Bears won all three games of the series on the weekend.
Maine's Jenny MacDowell led off the fifth with a single and Brynne Davis later tripled and Alexis Souhlaris doubled to account for three runs.
Binghamton's bats awoke in the top of the sixth and were able to plate two runs when the top of the order strung together four hits. BU's Jessica Phillips, Stephanie Valencia, Deannie Plemon and Stephanie DeLuca all singled, with Plemon and DeLuca knocking in runs. BU was not able to put across anymore runs and the score would remain 3-2.
Maine's Souhlaris earned the win, and BU's Kristen Emerling took the loss.
DeLuca was 2-for-3 for Binghamton.
BU returns to action on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Niagara at 3 p.m.
