Binghamton softball announces three signings for 2010 season

VESTAL, N.Y. - Head Coach Ali Brian has announced the signing of three recruits that will join the Binghamton softball program for the 2010 season. The Bearcats have signed Shannon Kane (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), Rhoda Marsteller (New Park, Pa./Kennard-Dale), and Nicole Richardson (Fort Worth, Texas, Northwest).

"This group of signees each brings something different and special that will help the team both on and off the field," Brian said. "Their personalities are very team oriented and we are looking forward to having them all here."

Kane plays for nearby Chenango Valley HS in Binghamton and also plays for the STPS Ponies in the summer. As a junior year she received All-STAC honors from her catcher position. Kane is also a New York State power lifting champion.

Marsteller is a highly decorated pitcher out of New Park, Pa. She was named the co-player of the year for the YAIAA in both her sophomore and junior seasons. As a junior in 2008, Marsteller had 13 wins in 113 innings with an ERA of 0.38. As a sophomore, she went 13-2 with an ERA of 0.11 while striking out 171. She has played summer ball for the Servena Park Green Hornets and the PA Vipers. In 2008 she was named to the 18U USSSA all-tournament team while playing with the Vipers.

Richardson is an infielder out of Northwest HS in Texas. She plays summer ball for the Texas Rapid Fire Gold. This past season, her high school was both district and regional champions. As a junior, Richardson hit .342 with 25 RBI while slugging .566.

Binghamton will open its 2009 season on February 27, at the Gael Classic, hosted by St. Mary's, in the Bay Area of California.
