Release: March 7, 2009 Junior pitcher Alyssa Velazquez threw the complete game shutout for Norfolk State (6-5), striking out five and walking only one batter. The Spartans led the Bearcats 1-0 in the sixth before plating three runs in the bottom of the inning to break it open. Binghamton suffered a similar fate in its game against Delaware State (5-2). After tying the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, BU allowed five runs in the top of the eighth, letting the Hornets pull away. Trailing 2-1 in their last ups, senior Sandy Meadows singled and then eventually scored on a throwing error by the Norfolk State defense to knot the game at 2-2 and force extra innings. Suker pitched all eight innings for Binghamton striking out
10 batters. The Bearcats will take on Colgate at 11 a.m. tomorrow and will finish their weekend by playing in either the championship or consolation game. |
