outfielder leads Bearcats to 4-1 effort at George Mason Tournament
America East Conference Release
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Sophomore outfielder
Phillips has been named the America East Softball Player
of the Week. She earned the award for her performance at the
George Mason Tournament this past weekend, in which the Bearcats
went 4-1 overall.
In five games, Phillips went 6-for-15 (.400), scored three runs,
ripped three doubles, homered once and had eight RBI. She also
drew four walks, which gave her an on-base percentage of .526.
"Jessica has been very consistent for us at the plate,"
head coach Michelle Burrell said. "She is doing a great
job when we have runners on base."
After being named the America East Rookie of the Year in 2010,
Phillips has picked right up where she left off through the first
nine games this season. She leads the Bearcats in batting, with
a .462 average, has homered three times and driven in 12 runs.
This marks the second time in her career that Phillips has been
named the America East Player of the Week. She was also honored
on May 3, 2010. In addition, Phillips was named the conference's
Rookie of the Week three times during her freshman season (March
29, April 20 and May 3).
With a 6-3 record, Binghamton is off to its best start in its
10 years as a Division I program. The 2004 squad had a 5-3-1
record nine games into the season.
