DeLuca named Player of the Week by the America East
BU picks up a weekly softball honor for third straight week honor

Conference release

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- Junior Stephanie DeLuca has been named the America East softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 4, the conference announced on Monday.

DeLuca provided clutch hitting all week in leading BU to a 4-1 record. DeLuca batted .533 (8-for-15), hit two doubles, a home run and had seven RBI. DeLuca also had an on-base percentage of .588 and slugged .867.

Her week was highlighted by going 3-for-4 with four RBI in BU's 10-5 win over UMBC. In that game DeLuca hit an RBI double, an RBI single, and a two-run home run in her first three at-bats. Earlier in the week DeLuca was 2-for-3 with both of the team's two RBI in BU's 2-1 win over Siena. DeLuca also registered a hit in all five games on the week.

DeLuca's honor continues the streak of Bearcats being awarded a weekly accolade, as freshmen Jessica Phillips and Rhoda Marsteller are coming off back-to-back conference rookie of the week awards.

The three weekly awards is the most ever in a season for Binghamton since joining the America East in 2002. Also, DeLuca becomes the only the second Bearcat (along with Rose Barre in 2004) to earn player of the week honors.

The Bearcats (15-8, 3-3 AE) will play a three-game set at conference-foe Maine this weekend.
