Binghamton softball ends layoff with doubleheader split at St. Francis
Box Score: Binghamton 3, St. Francis 1
Box Score: St. Francis 6, Binghamton 3
LORETTO, Pa.-- Sophomore pitcher Patty Egan (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) scattered one run on six hits and recorded her first complete-game victory of the season as Binghamton (3-10) split a non-conference softball doubleheader at St. Francis (9-19) on Thursday afternoon. The Bearcats took the first game 3-1 before losing the nightcap 6-3.
After allowing a run to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning of the initial game, Egan bounced back by tossing six scoreless innings. She struck out three batters and issued just one walk during the game. Offensively, senior outfielder Stephanie Woodcock (Harpursville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a double and scored two of the Bearcats' three runs.
In the nightcap, junior outfielder Nicole Bender accounted for nearly all of the Red Flash offense. She went 3-for-4 with a triple and home run, scored twice and drove in three more runs. For the Bearcats, senior outfielder Sara Eppolito (Manlius, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. The Bearcats had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning but left the bases loaded and had to settle for a split.
Binghamton heads to Hartford this weekend for a three-game conference series against the Hawks.
