Binghamton softball falls to Siena 2-0 and 8-3

Loudonville, N.Y. - Lauren Weingart drove in five runs for Siena (4-11) in its 8-3 win over Binghamton (3-17), capping off a doubleheader sweep of the Bearcats on Tuesday. Siena also won the first game of the day 2-0.

Siena's Amanda Filippizzo out dueled junior Cyrilla Suker in the first game to earn a 2-0 victory. Filippizzo threw a complete game shutout, giving up only one hit and striking out five. She also retired 16 of the final 17 batters.

Suker gave up only two runs and struck out six.

Binghamton's lone hit in the first game came from freshman Meghan Tucker in the second inning.

In the nightcap, BU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore outfielder Kelly Schuldt singled in Tucker just before junior shortstop Shannon McLeese scored on a wild pitch.

Siena fought right back in the bottom of the first by scoring two runs on the strength of a Weingart single to tie the game at 2-2.

Binghamton reclaimed the lead at 3-2 in the second when junior first baseman Stephanie Kolodziejski connected on her first home run of the year, a solo shot to left field.

Siena then added two runs on four hits in the third inning to and then put the game away with four runs in the sixth. The sixth inning was punctuated by a three-run home run by Weingart to left.

Siena was able to take full advantage of six errors committed by Binghamton.

Courtney Brinkman got the win on the mound for Siena, allowing only one earned run and striking out five.

Schuldt was 2-for-3 in game two for BU.

The Bearcats will resume America East play this weekend with a three-game series at Vermont.
