Softball signs former Gatorade New York State Player of the Year

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton University softball team has received a letter of financial agreement from catcher Steph Kolodziejski (Endicott, N.Y.), a local high school standout who recently concluded her freshman year at Fordham University. She will have three years of eligibility when she joins the Bearcats for the 2008 season.

Kolodziejski graduated from nearby Union Endicott High School in 2006, where she led here squad to the 2004 and 2005. She was named the Gatorade New York State Player of the Year in 2004. During her high school career, she played summer ball for the TC Tremors, receiving Offensive Player of the Year in 2005, hitting .419 with five home runs, 39 RBI, and 24 doubles, while also throwing out 31 of 34 base runners. Kolodziewski also excelled in the classroom, as she was a three-time NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete recipient.

This past season, she appeared in nine games with two starts for a Fordham squad that went 39-20 and finished second in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 16-4 mark.

"Steph is a strong catcher with a lot of room to grow. She is raw talent and I am convinced that she will make an impact both on and off the field due to her competativeness and hard work ethic."

With the aquisition of Kolodziejski, Binghamton has now signed eight players for the 2008 season. Earlier in the week, third baseman Michelle Olivieri (Conesus, N.Y.) and catcher Deannie Plemon (Irvine, Calif.) each signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI). In the fall, the Bearcats received NLIs from shortstop Bri Andrews (Endicott, N.Y.), catcher Kelly Schuldt (Lisle, N.Y.), first baseman Emily Phillips (Pickerington, Ohio), second baseman from Shawna Albright (Albion, N.Y.) and pitcher Emily Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.). Olivieri will be a junior in 2008 while everyone else will be a freshman.

"The recruiting class for 2007-08 is a group of bright, strong, intense and motivated individuals who are going to make a big impact on the future of Binghamton University softball," Brian said. "They are one of the finest classes that I have ever recruited."
