Binghamton softball defeated by St. Francis 7-0 in final game at ECU/Hampton Inn Pirate Clash
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Laura Caldwell fired a three-hit shutout, leading St. Francis (2-9) to a 7-0 win over Binghamton (1-4) in the championship round of the East Carolina/Hampton Inn Pirate Clash. With the setback, the Bearcats were eliminated from the competition.
Caldwell struck out six batters and issued only two walked. She had plenty of help offensively from shortstop Kaate Lancaster, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored a pair of runs. Designated hitter Kara Stroup drove in a pair of runs.
St. Francis got four runs in the bottom of the third inning and three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Senior shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y.) had the lone Bearcat extra-base hit with a double in the top of the sixth inning.
Binghamton travels to the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Florida next weekend.
