Softball team inks three high school players

The Binghamton softball team has received a national letter of intent from three high school seniors, all of whom will join the Bearcats for their freshman season in 2005.

Devin Glezen (Hallstead, Pa.) is a catcher/outfielder from Blue Ridge High School. In the past two season, she was named a second-team all-star catcher by the Scranton Times and in her freshman season, she was named a second-team all-star outfielder. During the 2003 season, Glezen had a .414 batting average as well as a .586 slugging percentage. Last summer, she played for the nationally-ranked Conklin Raiders. Glezen had a .423 slugging percentage with the Raiders and did not make an error the entire season.

"Devin displays an excellent work ethic and is a very versatile player," head coach Holly Brown said. "These characteristics will aid her in taking her game to the next level."

Patty Egan (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) is a pitcher/first baseman from Buena High School. She holds the single single record for the lowest ERA in a season (0.48) and received first-team All-5A Southern Region honors following the 2003 season. Egan was also the co-captain of her 2003 team and was named the Arizona Hot Peppers (summer league team) MVP in 2001 and 2002.

"Patty will be a welcomed addition to our pitching staff," Brown said. "She has great command of her pitches and will have an immediate impact on our program."

Meghan Quinn (Temecula, Calif.) is a pitcher/third baseman at Temecula Valley High School. She posted a 0.60 ERA playing for the Southern California Filly's Gold Team in the fall of 2003. She also posted a .400 batting average and a .421 slugging percentage during that time. In addition, she has been named the captain of Temecula Valley's team for the 2003-04 season.

"Meghan is an intense player, with good fundamentals defensively and offensively," Brown said. "She will be a fierce competitor on the mound and at the plate."
