Binghamton softball falls to UMBC 6-1

Plemon homers in losing effort

Vestal, N.Y. - Sophomore Stephanie Weigman threw a complete game two-hitter to lift UMBC (31-17, 9-6 AE) over Binghamton (5-30, 0-15 AE) 6-1 in an America East conference game on Wednesday afternoon at East Gym Field.

Weigman improved to 20-12 on the season with the victory and stuck out 11 Bearcat batters.

UMBC struck fast in the first inning when Amanda Fefel hit a two-run home run. The Retrievers added two more runs in the second when leadoff hitter Lauren Brummell drove in two runs on a single to left field.

The Retrievers capped off the scoring in the sixth inning when Amanda Page hit a two-run home run.

Binghamton's sophomore Deannie Plemon hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to account for the Bearcats only run.

Junior pitcher Cyrilla Suker pitched the complete game for Binghamton and struck out eight batters in the losing effort.

The Bearcats will head to Hartford for their final road conference series this weekend. The Bearcats will play two games on Saturday and one on Sunday.
