Junior Aimee Kern threw a four-hitter and junior outfielder Elena Rizza drove in a pair of runs, leading Vermont (12-26, 5-13 AE) to a 4-1 victory over visiting Binghamton (6-28, 2-15 AE) in America East softball action on Sunday at Archie Post Field. With the win, the Catamounts conclude their three-game weekend sweep over the Bearcats. Senior outfielder Stephanie Woodcock (Harpursville, N.Y.) put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the top of the second inning but Vermont took advantage of a pair of errors to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the same inning. Rizza broke the game open with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kern, meanwhile, held the Bearcats scoreless the last five innings, scattering just two hits during that span. Binghamton heads to Cornell on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader against the Big Red. |
