The Bearcats will try to halt their four-game losing steak in
their home opener against Colgate on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
from the West Gym. This weekend the squad will travel to Ohio
to compete in the Bowling Green/Best Western Invitational with
Rice, Hofstra and host Bowling Green. Binghamton will face Bowling
Green at 7 p.m. Friday night and then will have a quick turn-around
to match up against Hofstra at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The final
match of the weekend for the Bearcats will be against Rice at
4:30 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats hold a 10-8 all-time edge over the Raiders (3-6)
and have won the last seven meetings. The two teams last met
in 2007, with Binghamton earning a 3-0 win. Ashley Allen posted 10 blocks and
eight kills in the match. Colgates top offensive player
is Katrina Zawojski, who is averaging 3.86 kills per set.
Scouting Bowling Green: This will be the first ever meeting
between the Bearcats and the Falcons. Bowling Green has started
the season at an impressive 9-2 mark and has been paced by seniors
Kendra Halm (3.07 k/s, .369 hitting pct.) and Chelsey Meek (4.82
d/s). Bowling Green was 3-0 in this tournament last year, defeating
Duquense, DePaul, and Valparaiso.
The Pride (4-5) beat the Bearcats in their only meeting at the
Division I level back in 2004 3-0. Hofstra has been playing some
stiff competitions so far this season, already facing #5 USC
and #20 San Diego. The Pride are led by Harmonie Calinda 3.50
k/s and Lauren Engle (3.09 k/s).
The Owls (5-2) will meet the Bearcats for the first time on Saturday.
Rice is led by Tracey Lam (5.17 d/s) Karyn Morgan(3.29 k/s) and
Meredith Schamun (11.12 a/s). As of Sept. 14, Rice was ranked
sixth in the nation in digs per set (17.9), 13th in the nation
in assists per set (13.15) and 16th in the nation in kills per
go 0-3 at UVA tourney; Allen gets all-tourney nod
Binghamton dropped all three of its matches at the University
of Virginias Marriot Jefferson Cup last weekend. The Bearcats
lost to Appalachian St 1-3, Virginia 0-3, and VCU 2-3. Ashley

posted two double-doubles at the University of Virginias
Marriot Jefferson Cup. The second-year setter accomplished the
feats against Appalachian St. (38 assists, 11 digs) and VCU (46
assists, 11 digs). Mueller now has four double-doubles on the
season and 28 in her young career ... Sophomore Mercedes Montford and junior Dawn Lammert each came up with
five blocks against VCU on Saturday ... Senior Brianna Strong played a solid game
against Syracuse, tallying 11 kills and 18 digs ... Senior captain
posted a team-high 15 digs versus VCU and leads the team in total
digs this season (93). Strader is already the Division I all-time
leader in total digs and currently sits at 1,354.
