Volleyball signs local standout Chambers
VESTAL, N.Y. - - The Binghamton University volleyball program has announced the signing of Julie Ann Chambers (Nichols, N.Y./Tioga Central) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Bearcats for the 2008-09 academic year.
"Julie is one of the finest athletes in the Southern Tier," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "She's very versatile and can play both the front and back row well. Her athleticism and aggressive approach to volleyball will be a great asset to our program."
A four-year letterwinner and three-sport athlete (basketball, softball and volleyball) from Tioga Central, Chambers earned third team all-state volleyball honors in Class C this fall.
In addition, she was an Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) first-team honoree and was named the Division II MVP. She will graduate this spring as the Lady Tiger school record holder for service points (251) and assists (391) in a season.
Binghamton earned its fourth consecutive conference postseason berth in 2007 with a 7-5 conference mark and at 16-18 overall. The Bearcats welcome back five starters, including the libero, and 12 letterwinners for the 2008 campaign.
