Cambridge, Mass. -- Junior hitter Anna Lejina and junior setter Lindsey Mueller have been chosen as the America East volleyball Player and Setter of the Week, respectively, after the season opened this past week.
The duo, which were each first-team all-conference selections in 2008, helped lead Binghamton to a 2-1 showing at the Hofstra/Asics Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Lejina was named to the all-tournament team at the invite and posted 3.64 kills and 1.73 digs per set on the weekend. In a five-set match against Rhode Island, she slammed 21 kills and grabbed a career-high 21 digs. This is Lejina's third player of the week award in her career.
"Anna had a nice match against Rhode Island and carried us down the wire in the pivotal fifth game with some timely kills," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said.
Mueller dished out 53 assists while scooping 19 digs to go along with three kills and two blocks in the win over Rhode Island. Mueller averaged 8.91 assists and 2.45 digs on the week. The junior has now won six career America East volleyball weekly awards (five setter of the week and one rookie of the week) to move into a tie with Ashley Meffert for most all-time at Binghamton.
"Lindsey was solid over the weekend, improving with each match," Kiriyama said.
Binghamton will next head to the Marquette Challenge to take on Austin Peay, Butler and the tournament host this weekend.
