Cambridge, Mass. -- Freshman middle Alex Roland has been chosen as the America East volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 27.
"Alex has worked hard to learn our systems to put her in a position to contribute on both offense and defense," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We are delighted by her progress and we look forward to much more from Alex as she continues to develop."
Roland led Binghamton this past week with 0.92 blocks per set, including two solo blocks and nine block assists, while also averaging 1.50 kills per set. Roland contributed 18 kills, four digs, three assists and three aces on the week.
Against Central Connecticut, Roland posted eight kills and six blocks and later in the weekend had eight more kills and two block assists against Quinnipiac. Roland also had two kills and three blocks against Yale. Roland hit .375 in Binghamton's win over Quinnipiac. Her six blocks against Central Connecticut tied the season high for the Bearcats.
