Immediate Release: October 5, 2009
Cambridge, Mass. -- Junior outside hitter Michelle McDonough has been chosen as the America East volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 4. This is the second time McDonough has been named the conference's player of the week this season and the fourth time of her career.
"Michelle played solid and was a difference maker this weekend," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Michelle came through with some key points at the end of some close games against a tough New Hampshire team."
McDonough helped lead Binghamton to a 2-0 record last week with 4.71 kills per set and a team-leading 3.14 digs per set. McDonough led the league last week with 5.36 points per set, while also hitting at a .244 clip. In the Bearcats' America East opening 3-1 win over New Hampshire, she accumulated 19 kills, 15 digs, three blocks and two aces while hitting .273.
Earlier in the week, McDonough also had 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep of defending MAAC-champion Siena. She ranked second in the league in kills, ninth in digs and 10th in hitting percentage last week.
On the season, McDonough ranks third in the conference with 3.77 kills per set.
Binghamton will play at Hartford on Sunday afternoon.
