Binghamton's Roland nabs second AE Rookie of the Week award this season

America East Release

Cambridge, Mass. -- Freshman middle blocker Alex Roland has picked up her second America East Rookie of the Week award of the season. Roland is currently ranked fifth in the conference in blocks per set in AE matches.

"Alex continues to impress me on the court," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "She continues to improve every match and is becoming more and more of an integral part of our offense."

Roland helped BU split a pair of conference matches this past week. She was a big part of Binghamton's blocking effort, helping the Bearcats out block their opponents 23 to 15.

Roland posted a 1.00 blocks per set mark that included five blocks (with two solos) against UMBC and three more blocks against Stony Brook. Roland also tallied eight kills on a .231 clip against UMBC and added four kills at a .273 percentage against Stony Brook.

Binghamton will play a home-and-home with first place Albany this weekend.
