America East release
VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior hitter Anna Lejina was named America East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. In the final week of regular season play Lejina led the Bearcats to a two-win week and the second seed for the upcoming conference tournament.
"Anna was great in all areas of the game this weekend," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "It was nice to see her close out her home career with a solid performance at the net as well as in the back row."
Binghamton began the week by defeating visiting Stony Brook in four sets. Lejina produced a double-double for the Bearcats, with a game-high 22 kills and 11 digs while hitting .333. Her 22 kills matched her season high and marked the fifth time she recorded at least 20 kills in a game.
Lejina followed up her double-double with a 16 kill, six dig effort against Hartford on Senior Day. In her final home game as a Bearcat Lejina played a great all-around match. She hit at a .294 rate, while picking up two block assists, helping the BU defense hold Hartford to a .127 hitting percentage.
The Player of the Week honor is the second of the year for Lejina who also won the award back on Oct. 18. This marks the seventh weekly accolade for a Bearcat player during the season.
Binghamton will begin its title defense on Friday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. against UMBC. Regular-season conference champion Albany will host the tournament for the third consecutive year. UMBC swept the season series with Binghamton as the Bearcats managed to win just one set.
