Albany sweeps Volleyball in three games in conference opener

ALBANY, N.Y.--Binghamton (9-10, 0-1 AE) were swept by America East rival Albany (13-5, 1-0 AE) on Tuesday to start conference play. The Great Danes beat the visiting Bearcats 30-26, 30-22 and 30-17.

After a pair of close games, the Great Danes poured it on in the final game, with 18 kills with only two errors for an attack percentage of .640.

"Our offense was good but we just did not play good defense tonight," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "We knew it was going to be a tough against a team like Albany."

Senior right side hitter Jen Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) had a team high 14 digs with nine kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) had 25 assists and also contributed six digs.

Binghamton will next travel to Northeastern on Friday at 7 p.m.
